SUBJECT:
Resolution 25-R69 accepting and adopting the City of Fort Pierce Comprehensive Safety Action Plan
SUMMARY:
On August 8, 2022 the City Commission approved the staff request to pursue United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Discretionary Grant funding. On January 31, 2023 the City was notified that $240,000 of the SS4A funds were awarded to the City of Fort Pierce to develop a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (CSAP).
The City contracted with Kimley Horn and Associates to develop and create the CSAP. Various interagency and public meetings were held between July 2024 and April 2025 to aid in the development of the Plan. The goal of the plan is to reduce or eliminate serious injuries and fatalities on our transportation system.
At the City Commission meeting on June 9, 2025 staff presented the draft Comprehensive Safety Action Plan to the City Commission.
Per our agreement with the USDOT, the City must adopt the Comprehensive Safety Action Plan by September 26, 2025.
