Discussion and Direction on Sunrise Theatre Mural Community Poll Results and Project Update

For Fiscal Year 2025, the CRA Advisory Committee recommended installation of a mural on the west-facing wall of the Sunrise Theatre. The location was chosen for its high visibility from US 1 and its position at a key gateway into Downtown Fort Pierce.
 
Following the FPRA Board’s previous direction in July, staff issued a community poll to gather public input on three shortlisted mural designs identified by the CRA Advisory Committee. More than 2,000 votes were received, with Brian Peterson’s design receiving the highest number of votes. The poll results and design renderings are provided for the Board’s review and direction on next steps.
 
Staff has also identified that the wall will require preparatory work, such as crack repair, cleaning and priming, prior to mural installation. The cost is estimated to be an additional $15,000.00.
 
Formal authorization and associated funding approval will be brought back at a later date with a three-party agreement between the City, FPRA, and the selected artist.
 

11.3 The Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency will support the development of public art, art-related development, and art-related activities and events within the Redevelopment Area.  

Staff recommends that the FPRA Board review the community poll results and provide direction on whether to proceed with the design that received the most community support or consider alternative approaches. Staff will incorporate the Board’s direction into the final contract and return with the formal agreement for approval.

Staff will proceed as directed by the FPRA Board.
