SUBJECT:

Consideration of CRA Advisory Committee Recommendation Regarding the Youth Banner Art Showcase Submissions

SUMMARY:

Earlier this year, the FPRA launched the Youth Banner Art Showcase as part of the Pole Banner Program, an initiative designed to enhance community branding, improve aesthetics, and engage local students in the creative process. The Showcase invited students in grades K–12 enrolled in Fort Pierce schools to submit original artwork that represented one of the approved themes: Fort Pierce Landmarks, Arts & Culture, or Nature/Scenic.

The program concluded in October, with staff receiving a total of 80 submissions. All artwork was reviewed at the October meeting of the CRA Advisory Committee (CRAAC). The Committee evaluated the submissions based on the approved evaluation criteria, including alignment with theme, visual impact and readability, artistic skill, and overall execution.

Following their review, the CRA Advisory Committee unanimously recommended that all student submissions be produced as pole banners and installed on streetlight poles throughout the Peacock Arts District. This installation will showcase local youth talent, reinforce community pride, and contribute to the district’s visual identity.

FPRA REDEVELOPMENT PLAN GOAL/POLICY

10. The Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency shall enhance the Agency’s community presence and awareness and develop the area as a regional destination.
10.4 The Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency shall use the ‘brand’ to develop unique features in the Community Redevelopment Area (e.g. wayfinding signs, paver patterns/styles, shade structures, transit stops, amenities, etc.) and incorporate these items into the built environment.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends that the FPRA Board approve the recommendation of the CRA Advisory Committee to:

  1. Produce and install all 80 student submissions as part of the Youth Banner Art Showcase; and

  2. Authorize staff to obtain a signed license agreement from each student, or their parent or legal guardian, permitting the FPRA to reproduce and display the artwork on pole banners within the Peacock Arts District.

ALTERNATIVES:

The FPRA Board may choose not to approve the CRA Advisory Committee’s recommendation and direct staff to produce and install only selected submissions.

RESPONSIBLE STAFF:
