SUBJECT:
Resolution 26-R21 approving MOU between FDLE and FPPD for investigations regarding Officer Involved Shootings and in-custody deaths.
SUMMARY:
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Fort Pierce Police Department must be updated to reflect the current authorized signatories: Commissioner Mark Glass and Chief of Police David Smith.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that this Memorandum of Understanding be approved. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement serves as an independent and impartial investigative agency, thereby relieving the Fort Pierce Police Department of any perceived conflict of interest in the investigation of officer-involved shootings and in-custody deaths involving its personnel.
