SUBJECT:
Resolution 16-R48 Supporting the St. Lucie County Advanced Transportation Management System
SUMMARY:
This is a request for the approval of a resolution by the Fort Pierce City Commission showing support for the implementation of the proposed St. Lucie County Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS) project. The joint project between the Florida Department of Transportation, St. Lucie County, City of Port St. Lucie and the City of Fort Pierce is for the joint coordination of traffic signals along the US 1 corridor. In 2013, the FDOT prepared a master plan at the request of the St. Lucie Transportation Planning Organization, outlining the methodology to increase transportation efficiency and enhance mobility throughout St. Lucie County. The proposed ATMS would interconnect traffic signals along the major corridors independent of municipal boundaries. A proposed sharing of information would be controlled from a centrally located facility at FDOT's local office. FDOT is requesting a resolution showing support from the three local municipalities showing support for the proposed $10.3 million project.
RECOMMENDATION:
Engineering is in support of the resolution for the proposed ATMS project.
ALTERNATIVES:
Reject the resolution and continue traffic signal coordination through the city limits only.
