Re
Advance of FEMA Funding - Indian Hills Recreation Area - Increase existing PO 170680
Submitted For:
John Andrews

SUBJECT:

Approval of additional amount $220,800.00, in accordance with the attached proposals from Beemats, LLC., New Smyrna Beach, FL, for the replacement of floating vegetative islands at the Indian Hills Recreation Area damaged by Hurricane Irma.

SUMMARY:

The additional funding is needed due to a price increase in Caustic Soda from $92.80 per ton to $176.00 per ton, which was the result of changes in the Chlor-Alkali market.  Hurricane Irma  caused extensive damage to the twelve floating vegetative islands used for stormwater treatment at the Indian Hills Recreation Area.  Five of the islands were able to be salvaged with the remainder total losses.  This proposal is for the replacement of seven islands and the reinforcement of the anchoring system for all islands.

The City Commission approved Beemats, LLC,  proposal for the annual harvesting, maintenance and replanting vegetated mats at Moore's Creek and Indian Hills Recreation Area on January 3, 2017.
