SUBJECT:
Request approval of a $2,106,100.00 construction contract issued to Brothers' Construction, Inc. as required for emergency restoration of the Virginia Avenue Outfall Canal located between Heathcote Boulevard and Indian Hills Recreation Area.
SUMMARY:
Hurricane Irma caused canal damage to approximately 1,900 LF of the Virginia Avenue Outfall Canal located on the north side of Savannah Road. This canal will be armored utilizing rip-rap construction along the banks and the bottom of the canal as identified on the attached detail sheet. City staff requested financial assistance through the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) Emergency Watershed Protection program and was subsequently awarded funding totaling $3,296,283.00 (75% of the estimated construction costs & 10% for engineering fees). This project is the first of two projects funded under the previously approved NRCS Contract NR184209XXXXC002 as approved by the City Commission on June 4, 2018.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval
