Approval of a $2,020,900.00 construction contract issued to Johnson-Davis, Inc. as required for emergency restoration and hardening of the Mayflower Canal located between Edwards Road and Gardenia Avenue.

Hurricane Irma caused canal damage to 4,374 LF of the Mayflower Canal situated between Virginia Avenue and Edwards Road.  The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) allocated 75% construction ($1,639,479) along with an administration/engineering funding of $218,597.20 for the Mayflower Canal repair work.  However, the funding fell short of what was needed to complete the construction of the entire canal and therefore staff is requesting approval to proceed with stabilization of 2,955 LF of the Mayflower Canal as located between Gardenia Avenue and Edwards Road while our request for additional funding is reviewed by NRCS.  The proposed work includes the rip-rap armoring of the canal banks and the canal bottom as shown on the attached detail sheet.  This project is the second of two projects funded under the previously approved NRCS Contract NR 184209XXXXC002 as approved by the City Commission on June 4, 2018.
