- FY 2019 Edward Byrne Memorial, Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Letter of Support
SUBJECT:
Approve letter of support for the Edward Byrne Memorial grant, also known as the Justice Assistance Grant (JAG).
SUMMARY:
The Edward Byrne Memorial Grant, also known as the Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) is comprised of federal funding. JAG funds are awarded to the state through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for management and distribution to local government. The JAG grant is a formula grant, annual awarded funds are determined by population versus number of reported drug related arrests. Historically, funds awarded to St. Lucie county have been equally divided among the three law enforcment agencies in the county. FY 2019 funds available to the Fort PIerce Police Department are $32,291 and are proposed for expenditure on targeted law enforcement technology. No matching funds or in-kind match are requred.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the approval of a letter for support for the proposed expenditure for FY 2019 JAG funds.
ALTERNATIVES:
Do not approve a letter of support, subsequently, funds will not be awarded.
