SUBJECT:
Legislative Hearing - Ordinance No. 17-020 amending Chapter 4 to establish procedures for keeping backyard chickens. SECOND READING
SUMMARY:
The proposed ordinance amends Sec. 4-2 Special Exemption Permits to include backyard chickens. It also creates Sec. 4-33, which establishes regulations for keeping backyard chickens. Highlights of these regulations include:
- Maximum number allowed is six (6) chickens.
- Roosters are prohibited.
- Chickens must be kept in an enclosure. Such enclosure must provide a minimum of four (4) square feet but may not exceed eighty (80) square feet.
- Sale of chickens, eggs or other by-products is prohibited.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve the ordinance as proposed.
