SUBJECT:
Request approval of a $1,265,000 construction contract award issued to Johnson-Davis, Inc. as required for emergency restoration and hardening of the Mayflower Canal between Gardenia Avenue and Virginia Avenue.
SUMMARY:
Hurricane Irma caused significant canal damage to the Mayflower Canal situated between Virginia Avenue and Edwards Road. The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) previously allocated 75% of the estimated construction funding along with administration funding totaling $1,858,076.20 for the proposed repair work. However, this funding fell short of the total funding needed and only provided compensation for canal armoring between Edwards Road and Gardenia Avenue. NRCS has since approved allocation of additional funding in the amount of $1,265,000 (75% or $948,750 NRCS reimbursable and 25% or $316,250 SMU funded) for the construction work located between Gardenia Avenue and Virginia Avenue.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval
