Approval to submit and accept a grant from the Department of Justice, Edward Byrne Memorial, Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) for funding in the amount of $20,788 by the Police Department.

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) is the primary provider of federal criminal justice funding to states and units of local government.  The Bureau of Justice Assistance will award JAG Program funds to eligible units of local government to provide for targeted criminal justice needs. The Fort Pierce Police Department wishes to provide a much needed public service during the current pandemic and utilize funds to provide an area for safe exchange of children for visitation purposes and/or the exchange of goods to occur in the public parking lot next to the Department's Main Station. The Department will utilize $20,788 to purchase cameras, lighting, and signage to improve the area for the targeted purpose.  No match funds are required.

To assist in the safety of our citizens, the Staff recommends approval of submission of the grant application and subsequent acceptance of the grant contract and Certification Assurance signature by the Mayor when funding is awarded.

If denied, the Police Department will not pursue the "no-match" funding at this time.
