Sunrise Humane Society - FY2023 Lease Agreement

SUBJECT:

Approval of a lease agreement with the Sunrise Humane Society with an initial term running from April 1, 2022 to September 30, 2023, with four 1-year renewal options.

SUMMARY:

  • Original lease agreement with the Sunrise Humane Society (SHS) was initiated on 3/1/2021. We are into the first of the 1-year renewal periods.
  • The lease includes provisions for providing services to St. Lucie County, which have been eliminated from the new lease.
  • Certain provisions regarding the use of the facility, the monthly rent, inspections and utilities, were amended based upon experiences and challenges faced during the inaugural lease term.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approving the new lease as presented.

ALTERNATIVES:

Amend the proposed lease terms.
Continue the existing lease.

Fiscal Impact

OTHER INFORMATION:

SHS shall provide office space for use by Animal Control in lieu of monthly rent or 10% of monthly impound fees.
