Re: Safety Improvements - Raised Intersections Binney Drive and Fairway Drive

SUBJECT:

Approve Award to CWR Contracting Inc, in the amount of $144,000 and utilizing the piggyback contract for resurfacing to complete raised intersection safety improvements on Binney Drive and Fairway Drive.

SUMMARY:

Raised intersections are a recognized low cost improvement to promote slower and safer speeds within areas that meet the warrants for such improvements.

Staff has determined that raised intersections at the following locations are warranted:
Binney Drive at Alhambra Street
Binney Drive at Eldorado Street
Fairway Drive at Barbados Avenue
Fairway Drive at Hispana Avenue

Staff has coordinated with CWR Contracting Inc to provide raised asphalt intersections at these locations for a cost of $144,000.00

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends award to CWR Contracting in the amount of $144,000 to complete the raised intersections.

ALTERNATIVES:

Alternatives include the no-build option or to follow the full bid process for the raised intersections.
