- Nebraska Avenue Sidewalk Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program (TA) Grant Application
- Submitted For:

SUBJECT:
Resolution 23-R22 authorizing staff to apply for and accept a grant of up to $450,000 for Nebraska Avenue Sidewalk Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program (TA).
SUMMARY:
The Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program (TA) is funded yearly through FDOT from the Federal Highway Administration. These federal grants are used to fund smaller scale transportation projects that expand and improve non-motorized travel choices to make them safer and more accessible. Specifically, staff is proposing that the City apply for this grant to partially fund the Nebraska Avenue Sidewalk project.
Nebraska Avenue currently has sidewalk, but it is incomplete in areas. This project would add approximately 0.4 miles of sidewalk along Nebraska Avenue. In addition to providing a safe route for children walking to school or school bus stops, the proximity to Lawnwood Hospital and other medical support offices generates more need for connectivity in this community. The total project cost is estimated to be $716,900. Of which, approximately $450,000 could be awarded from the TA grant funds. If awarded these funds, the City would need to fund approximately $267,000 of the total project cost. Actual participation amounts would be determined when awards are made public.
Staff has prepared an application for this year's funding cycle and is requesting authorization to apply for and accept a grant amount of up to $450,000 for the FY 2023 Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program (TA) Grant.
