Recommendation of the Parks Advisory Committee to Approve the N.14th Street Renaming Nomination Recognizing Lillian P. Owens
SUMMARY:
During the City Commission Conference Meeting on Monday, April 8, 2024, the Parks Advisory Committee brought to the attention of the City Commission a nomination for renaming N. 14th Street. The nomination, submitted by Fort Pierce resident Lenard Owens, proposes renaming the street after his mother, Lillian P. Owens. This nomination is a resubmission as the previous submission was incomplete. Following a review of the nomination, the Committee recommends that the City Commission approves renaming N. 14th Street in honor of Lillian P. Owens. Ms. Owens, a longstanding African American resident of Fort Pierce, passed away earlier this year at the age of 100. For further details on Ms. Lillian P. Owens' legacy, contributions and historical significance, please refer to the nomination form.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approval to Rename N. 14th Street to that of the nominee's name, which is Lillian P. Owens.
