SUBJECT:
Request approval of Beemats proposal in the amount of $10,752 for the installation of three floating vegetated mats within Moore's Creek.
SUMMARY:
The proposal is to install floating vegetative islands in order to provide water quality benefits to the existing 2,382 acre drainage basin discharging into the creek and ultimately into the Indian River Lagoon.
This system consists of mats made of buoyant material, fitted with perforated pots, and then planted with specific aquatic plants to absorb and store excess nitrogen and phosphorus from the water column.
Three floating “islands” will be installed and anchored for a total growing surface of 1,536 sq. feet.

RECOMMENDATION:
Engineering recommends approval and acceptance of the proposal as submitted by Beemats, LLC. in the amount of $10,752.
ALTERNATIVES:
Eliminate potential for improved water quality or research more economical alternatives to remove excess nutrients.
