SUBJECT:
PULLED AT THE REQUEST OF STAFF. Approval of expenditure from the City Commission to use funds from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, not to exceed $125,000, to purchase needed safety equipment for Officers, update our interview room cameras, and donate to non-profit organizations or programs in good standing, including the Fort Pierce Police Explorers, Mustard Seed Ministries and Northside Bat and Ball Little League Baseball.
SUMMARY:
The Fort Pierce Police Department requests approval from the City Commission to utilize monies from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund (LETF) for the purchase of Axon interview room cameras, rifle-rated ballistic helmets, vests, and a shield for Quick Response Force-trained Crime Suppression Unit members. The total price of the Axon Interview Cameras will not exceed $76,000 for a 5-year contract, and the combined total for the rifle-rated ballistic helmets, vests, and shield will not exceed $24,000. The total expenditure for the needed items will not exceed $100,000. Additionally, the Fort Pierce Police Department is requesting authorization to make contributions to the following non-profit organizations that provide resources and community services to our City: The Fort Pierce Police Explorers—$10,000; Mustard Seed Ministries—$10,000; and Northside Bat and Ball Little League Baseball—$5,000.
As per Florida State Statute 932.7055, the police department certifies that this request to use LETF monies for the above expenditures is permissible and complies with this statute. The police department is only seeking authorization from the City Commission to utilize monies from the LETF for the above expenditures. Should the City Commission approve this request, the police department will submit a separate request for the actual purchase of the equipment in accordance with City rules and regulations.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the purchase of specialized equipment and contributions to non-profit organizations be approved.
ALTERNATIVES:
The alternative is to find another funding source for the needed equipment and identify other non-profit organizations that support the community.
