SUBJECT:
Approval of expenditure from the City Commission to use funds from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, not to exceed $24,000 to purchase needed safety equipment for Officers.
SUMMARY:
The Fort Pierce Police Department respectfully requests that the City Commission authorize the use of proceeds from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund (LETF) to purchase five (5) Level III (rifle-rated) ballistic vests, five (5) ballistic helmets, and one (1) Level III ballistic shield. These essential pieces of personal protective equipment are necessary for our specially trained Quick Response Force (QRF) officers to ensure their safety and effectiveness when conducting high-risk operations. The estimated total cost of these items will not exceed $24,000. Should this request be approved, the procurement of the items will be in accordance to the City's rules and regulations pertaining to purchasing.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the commission approves the use of proceeds from the LETF to purchase personal protective equipment for Fort Pierce Police Department Officers.
ALTERNATIVES:
Another funding source would need to be identified should this request be denied.
