SUBJECT:

Approval of the Arts and Culture Advisory Board’s selection of eight Highwaymen paintings for use in creating image impressions of the artists' iconic style, including a seascape, royal poinciana, red sky, orange sky, yellow sky, backcountry, nocturne, and jacaranda, to be featured on four mosaic benches which will be installed at the Highwaymen Museum:

SUMMARY:

During its May 19, 2025 meeting, the City Commission approved the Arts and Culture Advisory Board’s recommendation to purchase four Anita Prentice mosaic benches for an amount not to exceed $12,000.

The Arts and Culture Advisory Board and artist Anita Prentice discussed the project and gathered input on selecting paintings for the eight image impressions. After reviewing 31 paintings, the board chose eight iconic scenes that reflect the artists’ signature styles: a seascape, royal poinciana, red sky, orange sky, yellow sky, backcountry, nocturne, and jacaranda.

These benches will be installed at the Highwaymen Museum as part of the exterior site plan. The benches are expected to be completed in approximately two months.

Funding for this project was approved by the City Commission and will be allocated from the Art in Public Places account (100-1111-519-000-0000-549875).
