SUBJECT:
Approval of the construction contract with R.K. Contractors, Inc. for Little Jim Camp Sanitary Improvements, Bid No. 2025-008, in the amount of $390,648.22.
SUMMARY:
On April 7, 2025, during the City Commission meeting, the Commission awarded Bid No. 2025-008 for the Little Jim Camp Sanitary Improvements to R.K. Contractors, Inc., based in Fort Pierce, FL. The total cost for the project is $390,648.22.
This project proposes connecting the Little Jim Fish Camp’s sanitary sewer effluent discharge to the St. Lucie County Utilities public low-pressure sewer system located at the Stan Blum Memorial Boat Launch Facility. The proposed improvements include the construction of a private lift station, along with an 8-inch gravity sewer service connection to the existing Little Jim restaurant and bathroom facilities on site. Additionally, the project involves 640 linear feet of a 2-inch directional bore under the Indian River Lagoon, culminating in a final connection to the existing 2-inch low-pressure force main servicing the facilities at the Stan Blum Memorial Boat Launch Facility. Currently, the sanitary sewer treatment facilities servicing the Little Jim property consist of an on-site sewage disposal system that is failing and insufficient to handle the current flow. There are also concerns about potential contamination of the Indian River Lagoon Estuary due to the proximity of the site.
