- Re
- Purchase of Solid Waste refuse collection vehicles.
- Submitted For:
- Mike Reals
SUBJECT:
Approve lease to own purchase of six (6) 2017 Mack refuse collection trucks for the Solid Waste Division in an amount not to exceed $328,619.64 annually for a term of five (5) years.
SUMMARY:
The Solid Waste Division is operating with an aging fleet and has not purchased a new side load collection truck since 2012 and has not purchased a new front load truck since 2010. The Public Works Department is seeking to purchase three (3) 2017 Mack LR613 Side Load refuse trucks with G-S Products bodies and three (3) 2017 Mack MRU613 Front Load collection trucks with Heil bodies from Nextran Truck Center, inc. through the Florida Sheriffs Association FSA16-VEH14.0 cooperative purchasing agreement. Nextran Truck Center is the dealer selected by the bid award and they are able provide the lease to own financing for a term of five (5) years.
The expenses of operating with an aging fleet continues to rise year after year and the frequency of breakdowns increases as well. Because of the age, it is becoming more difficult to source the parts needed for repairs, increasing downtime and adversely affecting the delivery of quality service to the community.
By approving the requested purchase, the majority of the frontline trucks for commercial and residential collection will be new, resulting in a reduced cost to operate and improving the level of service to our customers.
