SUBJECT:
Resolution 17-R14 Supporting the Lake Okeechobee Regional Compact.
SUMMARY:
During 2016 a group made up of cities and counties, since called the Lake Okeechobee Learning Collaborative met a number of times to address the water management needs throughout the region while identifying commonality among each of the 164 municipalities and 19 counties in South Florida affected by chronic, damaging water pollution. The Lake Okeechobee Regional Compact is the most comprehensive effort in the State by impacted local governments to address extraordinary, far-reaching water quality issues affecting a population of more than 8 million Americans in central and south Florida.
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Resolution 17-R14.
ALTERNATIVES:
Do not adopt.
