513 N 13th Street - Demo hearing

SUBJECT:

Resolution No. 18-R20 and Quasi-Judicial Hearing - A hearing to allow the owners and/or parties of interest in the property identified as 513 (AKA 519) N 13th Street to show cause why the structure located on the premises should not be condemned and demolished.

SUMMARY:

  1. The structure was originally inspected by Building Department Investigator Shaun Coss on 1/23/2017 due a fire at this location. At the time the structure was in a condition to be rehabilitated if the owner chose.
  2. The structure was again inspected by Building Department Investigator Shaun Coss on 6/12/2017 due to a second fire. The recommendation following this inspection was demolition of the structure.
  3. The Fort Pierce Police Department has strongly encouraged the removal of this structure due to continued calls for service at this location due to loitering, drug use and prostitution.
  4. The Notice of Unsafe Structure was sent to the owner of record as well as the registered agent for the corporation on December 15, 2017 and both certified mail receipts were signed and returned. No contact has been initiated by either the owner of record or the registered agent for the company

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends the City Commission approve Resolution No. 18-R20 declaring that the structure located at 513 (AKA 519) N 13th Street be condemned and demolished in accordance with the Rules of Procedure for Condemnation and Demolition as adopted by the City Commission.

OTHER INFORMATION:

The estimated cost for demolition, if required to be conducted by the City, is $10,447.00 and will be funded by the Clean & Safe Initiative and shall become a lien against the property.
