SUBJECT:
Authorize staff to apply for and accept a grant amount of $300,000.00 for the FY2022 Safe Streets and Roads For All Grant (SS4A) from the United States Department of Transportation.
SUMMARY:
At the August 8, 2022 City Commission Conference Meeting, staff presented information on The Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant. The SS4A grant is a new funding opportunity that supports the National Roadway Safety Strategy. It specifically targets and supports local initiatives to prevent death and serious injuries on roads and streets. This effort is known as the Vision Zero or Target Zero initiative.
City staff is working on submitting an application for $300,000 of Federal Funds (plus $60,000 City Funds) to complete a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan that will identify low-cost safety improvements and establish a program to implement these improvements. The application is submitted through the Grants.gov website and the Engineering Department is working with the Grants Administration Division to access the required programs to complete the application.

RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Commission authorize staff to apply for a grant amount of $300,000.
ALTERNATIVES:
The City can fund a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan with City funds.
