SUBJECT:
Approval for the police department to submit and accept the following grants: Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) - $38,278.00, JAG Local Grant - $27,111.50, JAG – Countywide - $31,363, Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence (FCADV) InVest Grant - $74,654.00, and Florida Department of Health-Distracted Driving Prevention Grant - $5,000.00.
SUMMARY:
VOCA – The VOCA grant will be used to continue our VOCA funded victim assistance services by sustaining the salary and benefit costs for our current Victim Assistant position.
JAG Local – The Department of Justice has set aside $54,223 to be divided equally between the Police Department and the St Lucie County Sheriff’s Office. The Police Department intends to use this funding for technology improvement projects in compliance with BJA objective(s).
JAG Countywide – The Department of Justice has set aside $94,089 to be divided equally between the Fort Pierce Police Department, Port Saint Lucie Police Department and the Saint Lucie County Sheriff’s Office. There is no local match requirement.
FCADV, InVest Grant- The InVest Grant will fund the police departments full time InVest Investigator position, who will continue to work closely with Safe Space and officers to better serve the victims of domestic violence.
Florida Department of Health-Distracted Driving Prevention Grant – The Distracted Driving Prevention Grant will allow the police department to complete distracted driving presentations at Fort Pierce Central High School, John Carroll High School, St. Andrews Episcopal Academy, St. James Academy, IRSC Adult Education, PACE Center for Girls and Neighborhood Watch Groups make them aware of the dangers of texting and driving.
