SUBJECT:
Approve request by A.E. Backus Museum and Gallery to replace ground sign on City Property at their cost on leased property at 500 North Indian River Drive.
SUMMARY:
• The applicant is requesting to replace their existing ground sign located on City Property, outside of the established lease boundaries.The request encompasses the removal of the existing ground sign, and construction of a new sign, integrated within an art sculpture for purposes of advertising the Museum and Gallery, as well as Community information.
• The A.E. Backus Museum & Gallery leases 2.1 acres of property located adjacent to Veteran’s Memorial Park from the City of Fort Pierce.
• Sections 15-5(8) & (9) of the City Code prohibit ground signs on public property or rights-of-way, however the present request features unique circumstances based upon the establish land lease and community museum.
• Section 15-5 of the City Code provides such sign may be specifically authorized or required by the city commission, state law or court order.
