Consideration and approval of consultant to conduct executive search for a City Attorney for the City of Fort Pierce.

At the November 2, 2015 meeting, the City Commission directed staff to initiate the process to obtain the services of a consultant to assist with the hiring of a City Attorney.

Attached are 6 proposals for the City Commission's consideration from the following consultants:  Colin Baenziger & Associates, International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA), S. Renee Narloch & Associates, Slavin Management Consultants, Strategic Government Resources (SGR) and The Mercer Group, Inc.

In 2012, Colin Baenziger conducted the search for the City Manager. This firm was established in 1997 and is headquartered in Volusia County, Florida.  100% of their work is now local government executive search.  Baenziger was also hired by St. Lucie County to conduct the search for a County Administrator.

IMLA recently reviewed the legal services provided by the City Attorney and provided recommendations to the City Commission.  

As the Senior Vice President of Recruitment for Bob Murray & Associates, Renee Narloch was responsible for recruitment in 40 states. Ms. Narloch has over 25 years experience in public sector recruitment, and as the President of her own firm, has conducted over 400 searches.

Slavin Management Consultants is a national firm located in Norcross, Georgia. Slavin was founded in 1988 by local government practitioners. They recently conducted the search for a city manager for the City of Mount Dora, Florida and a chief administrative officer for the City of Plantation, Florida.

Strategic Government Resources (SGR) was founded in 1999 and is headquartered in Keller, Texas with satellite offices in Kissimmee, Lakeland and Sarasota.  SGR specializes in local government executive searches, and offers online videos of candidates' interviews.

The Mercer Group, with over 30 years of local government experience, has a branch office in Seminole, Florida. Mercer recently completed the search for a City Attorney for Pompano Beach, Florida.

Also attached is a comparison of the fees and estimated time of completion for the search.

Staff recommends the selection of one of the six qualified candidates by the City Commission to conduct the search for the next City Attorney for the City of Fort Pierce.
