Resolution 24-R25 authorizing the Police Department to apply for permits through the Florida Department of Transportation for Flock automatic license plate readers.

The Fort Pierce Police Department currently utilizes Flock Safety License Plate Readers (LPRs) installed throughout the City. All current Flock Cameras were installed before July 1, 2023. This date marks the effective implementation of Florida State Statute 316.0777, which established a permit process through the Florida Department of Transportation for installing and maintaining LPRs. The DOT has since requested that the Police Department apply for permits for all cameras, regardless of their location.
 
The resolution is for the City of Fort Pierce City Commission to grant authority to the Fort Pierce Police Department and, in turn, the Chief of Police to designate an authorized representative, Flock Safety, to ultimately apply for the required permits.

The resolution and Letter of Authorization have been approved by the City Attorney's Office in RLS 24-98 as to form and correctness.
