Approve CRA Advisory Committee recommendation to authorize staff to facilitate a community-driven selection process, allowing residents and visitors of Fort Pierce to vote on their favorite mural design among the three finalists for the Sunrise Theatre Mural Design.

On May 31, 2025, the CRA Advisory Committee reviewed and evaluated artists' design submissions for the Sunrise Theatre Mural project. Over 30 artist submissions were evaluated, and after careful consideration, the committee selected the top three artists based on the artistic quality & creativity, aesthetics and artistic qualifications & experience of their proposed designs.

Rather than making a final selection themselves, the CRA Advisory Committee is recommending that the Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency (FPRA) Board approve a community-driven selection process, allowing residents and visitors of Fort Pierce to vote on their favorite mural design among the three finalists.

Requested Action:

1. Approve the CRA Advisory Committee’s recommendation and authorize staff to move forward with a community voting process for the final selection of the Sunrise Theatre Mural design
   
   or

2. Select one of the three finalist mural designs for immediate approval without public voting.

 

11. The Fort Pierce Redevelopment Area will become well known for its arts and cultural activities, amenities and events.
11.3 The Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency will support the development of public art, art-related development, and art-related activities and events within the Redevelopment Area.   

Staff recommends that the FPRA Board approve the CRA Advisory Committee’s recommendation to initiate a community voting process to select the final mural design for the Sunrise Theatre.

The FPRA Board may choose to select one of the three finalist.
