Approve award of the Veterans Memorial Park Alternate bid items to the low bidder, Brothers' Construction, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $384,770.00.

During the October 19, 2015 commission meeting, commissioners approved award of the Veterans Memorial Park Base Bid (stormwater related improvements) in the amount of $1,648,040 to Brothers' Construction while funding possibilities for the Alternate Bid items were explored.  The Alternate Bid items include the pedestrian archway, memorial wall, service flags, site lighting, dedication monument, Anita Prentice designed benches, memorial brick plaza area, and other site amenities.  The Commission had previously set aside $130,400 from the City's Art in Public Places fund leaving a funding shortage of $254,370 and with Representative's Lee's hard work we were able to secure $100,000 from a State Appropriation bringing the funding shortage down to $154,370.  We are requesting approval for additional City contributions in the amount of $154,370 to be subsidized from the Arts in Public Places ($50,000) and the Parks MSTU ($100,000) in order to award this final phase of construction.
