SUBJECT:

Resolution No. 16-R49 Adopting the St. Lucie County Local Mitigation Strategy Plan in order to remain eligible for FEMA mitigation grant programs.

SUMMARY:

The St. Lucie County Department of Public Safety prepared and presented the Local Mitigation Strategy Plan to the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM), which was approved on May 16, 2016.  The St. Lucie Board of County Commissioners adopted the Plan by Resolution, #16-094, on June 7, 2016.  The City of Fort Pierce is now eligible for the following Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) mitigation grant programs:

                         Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP)
                         Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM)
                         Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA)

In order to remain eligible for the aforementioned FEMA mitigation grant programs, the City Commission must adopt the St. Lucie County Local Mitigation Strategy Plan by Resolution by June 8, 2017.  The FEMA funds are available through June 16, 2021. 
 

RECOMMENDATION:

The recommendation is to approve the St. Lucie County Local Mitigation Strategy Plan by Resolution. 

ALTERNATIVES:

The alternative is to decline the adoption of the St. Lucie County Local Mitigation Strategy Plan.
