SUBJECT:

Resolution 17-R01: A resolution of the City Commission of the City of Fort Pierce, Florida, establishing the Peacock Arts District, providing for an effective date.

SUMMARY:

  • The City of Fort Pierce seeks to inspire redevelopment and renewal of history, art, and culture within a segment of the Orange Avenue corridor, between 10th Street and US Highway 1 which was historically a bustling commercial district.
  • The area delineated, and presented as the Peacock Arts District is bound by US Highway 1 on the east, and anchored on 10th Avenue along the Commercial properties abutting Orange Ave. The northern boundary runs extends along the upper bounds of the commercial district, to 7th Street, ending at Moore’s Creek. The southern boundary extends along Citrus Avenue from US Highway 1 west to 7th, north to Atlantic Avenue, connecting west to 10th Street along the bounds of the commercial district (attached ).
  • Retail shops, salons, markets, and even government offices once generated an abundance of activity from residents living in the immediate vicinity and beyond, however for some time, the Orange Avenue Corridor between U.S. Hwy 1 and 10th street has experienced challenges of neglect and under investment.
  • The presented recognization of the Peacock Arts District seeks to initiate a community driven effort to restore and revitalize this once vibrant corridor through the advance of arts, culture, and civic pride.
