- Opposing HB 17 and SB 1158
SUBJECT:
Resolution 17-R11 Opposing House Bill 17 and Senate Bill 1158 which preempt local business regulations and prohibits local government from imposing or adopting any new regulations on business unless express authorized by the legislature.
SUMMARY:
The Florida League of Cities and the Treasure Coast Regional League of Cities are actively working in Tallahassee to protect the rights of home rule for municipalities in the State of Florida. They have asked that municipalities adopt resolutions opposing HB 17 and Senate Bill 1158 because of they will undercut the intent of municipal citizens who voted to incorporate their communities and exercise the broad Home Rule powers granted by the Florida Constitution to govern themselves.
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Resolution 17-R11
ALTERNATIVES:
Do not adopt or adopt with revisions.
