SUBJECT:
Request permission to submit and accept grant application for N 17th Street Improvements Orange Ave to Avenue D (Drainage Improvements) from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA Region IV) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funds as a result of the recent Presidential Disaster Declaration for Hurricane Hermine (FEMA-4280-DR-FL).
SUMMARY:
Florida Division of Emergency Management announced the availability of HMGP funds to help communities implement measures to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property from natural hazards and their effects.
The Engineering Department is seeking permission to submit a grant application for "N 17th Street Improvements Orange Ave to Avenue D" which entails the reconstruction of roadway, drainage, and sidewalks improvements for the 0.38 miles of roadway.
Classified by the Federal Highway Administration as a Urban Major Collector roadway, the improvements are estimated to cost approximately $1,123,997.00.
Under the HMGP, FEMA will contribute 75 percent of the total amount approved under the grant award (not to exceed $842,997.75) , and the City of Fort Pierce must provide the remaining 25 percent match from our Stormwater Management Utility fund.
The application period will close May 5, 2017.

Staff recommends the City Commission approve permission to submit grant application for Hurricane Hermine FEMA-4280-DR-FL.
