Discontinue Guardian ad Litem Interlocal Agreement

SUBJECT:

Approve termination of an Interlocal Agreement between the City of Fort Pierce and St. Lucie County for the lease of office space in the Fort Pierce Parking Garage for the utilization of the Guardian ad Litem Program.

SUMMARY:

* St Lucie County has deemed that this project is not financially feasible at this time.  

At the March 20, 2017 meeting, the City Commission unanimously approved the concept of an Interlocal Agreement with St. Lucie County for the lease of office space to be utilized by the Guardian ad Litem Program in the City's parking garage, and directed staff to enter into negotiations for the lease agreement.

The lease agreement was for a term of 15 years at a cost of $67,500 annually for years 4 through 15.  The rent will be reduced for the first 3 years of the lease, $30,000, $35,000 and $40,000, respectively, as the County was responsible for the cost of the design and build of 9,000 square feet of office space.  

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends accepting the request of St Lucie County to terminate the Interlocal Agreement.

ALTERNATIVES:

Staff will proceed as directed by the City Commission.
