SUBJECT:
Approval of a project Agreement between the City of Fort Pierce and NRCS in the amount of $696,860.22 for canal stabilization of a portion of Canal No. 9, commonly refered to as Edwards Road Canal.
SUMMARY:
The flooding effects of Hurricane Irma caused severe erosion and canal bank failures along Canal No. 9, particularly a 325 LF segment of the canal situated south of the residential properties from and including 1029 Trinidad Avenue to 1035 Trinidad Avenue. NRCS has approved funding for the repair and stabilization of this area under the Federal Government's Emergency Watershed Protection Program. This approval will provide compensation in the amount of $470,851.50 (75% of the estimated construction cost) along with a 10% engineering/administrative reimbursement of up to $69,058.22 for a total grant funding of $539,909.72. The agreement requires a 25% construction match of $156,950.50 that will be encumbered from the City's Stormwater Management Utility fund.
