SUBJECT:
Update on the status of negotiations with Second Chance Animal Shelter aka the Humane Society of St. Lucie County.
SUMMARY:
Negotiations with Second Change Animal Shelter / Humane Society of St. Lucie County have reached an impasse. Our existing service contract expires on September 30, 2019 and we have been advised in writing to prepare alternate plans for our impounded animals effective October 1, 2019.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Commission direct the City Attorney to take the legal remedies available to the City through the service contract and/or lease to best protect the interests of the City, its residents and the animals under its care and protection.
ALTERNATIVES:
Direct staff to continue negotiations.
Increase the annual payment as requested.
