SUBJECT:
Resolution 19-R40, a resolution of the City Commission of the City of Fort Pierce, Florida, extending the boundaries of the Peacock Arts District, providing for an effective date.
SUMMARY:
The Peacock Arts District (PAD) was formally established via Resolution 17-R01 on January 3, 2017. Since establishment of the Peacock Arts District, staff has been working with stakeholders to revitalize the district. City staff presented a vision for the PAD in July 2018 which included the concept of extending the boundaries to include the Delaware Avenue business corridor, residential citizenry of the neighborhood and Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie (CAST). CAST provides opportunities to develop and highlight creativity and performance through courses in dance, visual and graphic arts, vocal and instrumental music, theater and musical theater and serves as a cultural activity generator which will enhance the Peacock Arts District.
The area delineated for inclusion in the extended Peacock Arts District is bound by US Highway 1 on the east and 13th Street on the west. The northern boundary extends along the upper bounds of the district ending at Avenue B. The southern boundary extends Delaware Avenue from US Highway 1 west to 13th including the properties abutting Delaware Avenue.
