SUBJECT:
Approval to submit and accept two 2016 JAG Grants - one in the amount of $35,055.50 and another in the amount of $5,774.66.
SUMMARY:
| The Police Department requests approval to submit and accept two grants from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Edward Byrne memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) for funding in the amounts of: $35,055.50 - 2017 JAG Countywide $ 5,774.66 - 2017 JAG Precipitous Funding |
| JAG Countywide - The Department of Justice has set aside $105,163 to be divided equally between the Police Department, St. Lucie County, and the Sheriff’s Office. The JAG Program supports law enforcement efforts in preventing or reducing crime/violence, and is used to support the salary of a full-time gang crime analyst. This award requires a $24,832.93 match. JAG Precipitous Funding - The Department of Justice had issued funds to support all Florida Law Enforcement agencies who committed man hours and/or overtime hours in response to the mass shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016. The Pulse shooter residing in Fort Pierce required the Police Department to be involved and commit man hours and overtime to assisting the FBI, Homeland Security, and the Sheriff's Office - totaling $5,774.66. |
RECOMMENDATION:
This request be approved.
