Minutes for City Commission Workshop - Sunrise Theatre - 3:00 p.m.

MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA, HELD IN THE CITY HALL COMMISSION CHAMBERS, 100 NORTH U.S. #1, FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA, AT 3:00 P.M. ON TUESDAY, MARCH 23, 2021.

CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Hudson called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.

Discussion of the Future of the Sunrise Theatre
Johnna Morris, Finance Director, provided an overview of the financials of the Sunrise Theatre showing the five year trend and fiscal year to date financials.   Sharon Engle, Sunrise Theatre Executive Director discussed the current operations of the theater as well as the grant opportunity that they are seeking.  The Mayor and Commission discussed options for the theater including, potential funding sources and mechanisms, operations and management structure, basic operational costs and the future. 

After the discussion, consensus of the Mayor and Commission was that the theater will remain open, staff will expeditiously issue an RFQ/P for the management of the theater, staff will work with PFM in a hybrid approach if the grant is received, staff will continue working with IRSC to develop a strategic plan and the Commission will appoint members to the Sunrise Theater Advisory Board at the next regular meeting.    They will also consider restructuring the makeup of the advisory board in the future.

Any person who wishes to comment on any subject may be heard at this time. Please limit your comments to three (3) minutes or less, as directed by the Mayor, as this section of the Agenda is limited to fifteen minutes. The City Commission will not be able to take any official actions under Comments from the Public. Speakers will address the Mayor, Commissioners, and the Public with respect. Inappropriate language will not be tolerated.

COMMENTS FROM THE COMMISSION
The City Manager indicated he was clear on the direction given.  Commissioner Curtis Johnson asked that the existing applications for the Advisory Board be shared with the Mayor and Commission.

Mayor Hudson adjourned the meeting at 5:05 p.m.
