APPROVAL OF MINUTES
 
A.
Approval of Minutes from the February 10, 2022 Police Community Advisory Committee Meeting.
 

Motion was made by Derrick Gibbons, seconded by Quincy Barr to approve the minutes of the February 10, 2022 meeting.

COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC
Any person who wishes to comment on any subject on this Agenda or other concerns may be heard at this time. Please sign the sign-up sheet in order to speak. Please limit your comments to no more than three (3) minutes, as this section of the Agenda is limited to thirty minutes. The Police Community Advisory Board will not be able to take any official action under “Comments from the Public” section.

OLD BUSINESS
 
A.
PCAC Community Survey.

The recommendation made by the City Commission to administer the survey at local churches was discussed. Members agreed that it will be challenging to tabulate the results from a paper-based survey.
 
8.
NEW BUSINESS
 
A.
Department Update.
Members were briefed on the progress the department has made in the area of technological advancement. Staff Norris shared that the department has received the core certification for the utilization of the drone which would allow for the establishment of a drone command post.
 
Member Gibbons asked how the department’s budget has been affected by the increases in fuel price. Staff Braun in response shared the current arrangement the department has in accessing fuel. He informed members that plans are in the pipeline to add hybrid cars to the department’s fleet. The use of electric vehicles is also being assessed even though the installation cost for the system will be substantial. Member Hayek enquired about the cost difference between regular and hybrid cars. Staff Braun said that is approximately $2,400.
 
B.
Upcoming Events.
Staff Norris shared that there will be a swearing-in ceremony on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at 1:00 P.M.  Community events such as Courageous Kids will resume in short order and another Citizen’s Academy will be organized as soon as possible.

STAFF COMMENTS
Members were informed by Staff Norris that the department will be hosting Unity in the Community in July.

COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS
Member Hayek said it would be good for members to attend the department’s Roll Call meetings.  Staff Braun reminded members that if more than two members of the committee are present at these meetings it would have to be posted. Staff Norris will provide members with the information for upcoming Roll Call meetings.  
 
Member Hendley enquired about the plans to have community meetings. She said the committee needs to be more visible in the community. As an Advisory Committee to the police department, Member Hendley shared the importance for members to be accessible to the community on matters pertaining to the police department. A suggestion was made for the committee to be included in the department’s Unity in the Community event.
 
Member Gibbons informed members that he has had dialogue with some City Commissioners to get lit signs for crosswalks on the east side of the city. He outlined that this has been a concern for him because drivers needed to be more considerate of pedestrians. Member Hendley shared her concerns about the safety of pedestrians on Hartman Road. Member Hayek said it would be good to have more officers on patrol in these areas.
 
Member Hendley provided an update on the community violence intervention for the Lincoln Park Community. She shared that input from both the police and sheriff departments was being sought.
 
With regard to community activities, Member Barr informed members of the upcoming local baseball games.
