Conference Agenda Meeting - Monday, January 8, 2024 - 9:00 a.m.

Call to Order
Mayor Hudson called the January 08, 2024, Conference Agenda Meeting to order at 9:00 A.M.

New Business
 
a.
Update presentation by representatives of the Retirement Board
Retirement Board Chairman, Keith Stevens, gave the Retirement Board update. The Commission discussed the quarterly evaluations they do on the money managers for the retirement funds. They all agreed that the Retirement Board should come before the Commission more than once a year.
 
b.
Resiliency PowerPoint Presentation, presented by Paul Thomas, CBO, CFM, Director of Building Department.
Building Director, Paul Thomas, gave the Resiliency Presentation. The Commission would like to see a copy of the study that shows Ocean Village not being in a flood zone. They discussed the possibility of putting the building department under this resiliency plan due to the new legislation regarding turnaround time in the building department. They requested data for the request to change the condo structural inspections from every 30 years to every 25 years. The Commission also discussed where the funding for all the different projects will be coming from, and it is all through different grants and state programs.
 
c.
Community Beautification Efforts
Community Response Director, Peggy Arraiz, and Public Works Director, Mike Reals, gave the update on the Community Beautification Efforts. The Commission discussed the importance of businesses working to keep their storefronts clean. They also discussed getting the youth involved in cleanups as a part of their community hours requirement to graduate high school. The Commission agreed there needs to be more diversity on the Keep Fort Pierce Beautiful board, including involving our youth.

COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC

Any person who wishes to comment on any subject may be heard at this time. Please limit your comments to three (3) minutes or less, as directed by the Mayor, as this section of the Agenda is limited to thirty minutes. The City Commission will not be able to take any official actions under Comments from the Public. Speakers will address the Mayor, Commissioners, and the Public with respect. Inappropriate language will not be tolerated.

City Commission Boards and Committees Updates
Commissioner Jeremiah Johnson did not have any board updates.
 
Commissioner Broderick mentioned the Parking Committee has a meeting this week.
 
Commissioner Gaines mentioned a change of leadership on the Council of Local Government.
 
Commissioner Curis Johnson wanted everyone to be aware of the numerous bills being discussed at the upcoming legislative session.
 
Mayor Linda Hudson agreed with Commissioner Curits Johnson about the amount of bills to keep an eye on, and she mentioned the events happening this month, like the History Festival on Saturday, January 13th at Museum Point Park and the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr Parade.

Adjournment

Immediately following adjournment, please move toward the doors and exit the chambers. This allows for the safe and courteous exit of all persons, and those on the dais. Conversations after the meeting should be held outside of chambers, in the foyer or elsewhere, but not in the commission chambers where lights will be out as soon as the chambers are empty.
Mayor Linda Hudson adjourned the meeting at 11:55 P.M.
