MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE PARKS ADVISORY COMMITTEE OF THE CITY OF FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA, HELD IN THE CITY COMMISSION CHAMBERS, 100 N. US HIGHWAY 1, FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA, AT 10:00 A.M. ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2023.

Any person who wishes to comment on any subject on this Agenda may be heard at this time. Please sign the sign-up sheet in order to speak. Please limit your comments to no more than five (5) minutes, as this section of the Agenda is limited to thirty minutes. The Parks Advisory Committee will not be able to take any official action under “Comments from the Public” section.

OLD BUSINESS
 
a.
Update on call for names for plaques at NW Pioneers Park
Public Works Director, Mike Reals, gave the update on the plaques at North West Pioneers Park. He let the Committee know no new names were submitted during the last call for submissions. They will discuss the names that were submitted previously at the next meeting in January to ensure they meet the criteria set by the Commission. 
 
b.
Update on the Parks Ordinance changes
Community Response Director, Peggy Arraiz, gave the update on the presentation of the Parks Ordinance Changes that was presented to the City Commission. The Committee discussed the items that were approved and not approved. The hours of the parks are going to be changed by a Resolution to be presented to the City Commission in January. The Committee asked about propane grill usage. Ms. Arraiz let them know grills are not permitted except for the ones provided by the City, and they are only charcoal grills.

BOARD DISCUSSION
The Committee discussed future ideas and tasks they could be a part of, like improvements and additions to the parks, installing internet in the parks, the homeless population hanging around the parks, and youth programs. Mr. Reals let them know the youth programs need more volunteers.

STAFF DISCUSSION
The Committee discussed the Treasure Coast Youth Sailing Foundation and the enforcement of the agreement they have with the City. Mr. Reals mentioned that if anyone sees or has any concerns about them adhering to the agreement, they should reach out to the Public Works department. 
They also discussed the Jaycee Park improvements. The boat ramp and docks are currently under construction and the roofs and sidewalks are next on the list of improvements.

Chairperson Charlene Adair adjourned the meeting at 10:57 AM.
