MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE ARTS AND CULTURE ADVISORY BOARD OF THE CITY OF FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA, HELD IN THE 2ND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM, CITY HALL, 100 NORTH U.S. #1, FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA, AT 9:00 A.M. ON TUESDAY, MARCH 26, 2024.

CALL TO ORDER
Chairwoman Pouliotte called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.
 
2.
ROLL CALL

Absent:

Staff Present:
Marsha Commond, Redevelopment Specialist; Celia Howard, Deputy City Clerk
Board member Gloria Baxevanis notified staff of her absence.

Any person who wishes to comment on any subject on this Agenda may be heard at this time. Please sign the sign-up sheet in order to speak. Please limit your comments to no more than five (5) minutes, as this section of the Agenda is limited to thirty minutes. The Arts and Culture Advisory Board will not be able to take any official action under “Comments from the Public” section.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
 
a.
Approval of Minutes from the February 27, 2024 meeting.
 

Motion by Vice-Chair Doretha Hair Truesdell, seconded by Ipyana Abayomi to approve the minutes of the February 27, 2024 meeting.

NEW BUSINESS
 
a.
The Rotary Club Peace Pole Proposal
Marsha Commond, Redevelopment Specialist, presented The Rotary Club Peace Pole Proposal providing details including the proposed location and the designing artist. She answered questions posed by the Board such as the dimensions of the pole and who will be installing the Peace Pole.
 
The Board recommended adjusting the Peace Pole further from the sidewalk for optimum visibility and safety concerns.
 

Motion by Vice-Chair Doretha Hair Truesdell, seconded by Lisa Kessler to recommend The Rotary Club Peace Pole Proposal to be installed at Gazebo Park at no cost to the City of Fort Pierce.

b.
Indian River Drive Mural Design Evaluations
Marsha Commond, Redevelopment Specialist, presented the conceptual design proposals for the Indian River Drive Mural Design, which were submitted by various artists. The Board reviewed all the design proposals, and each member was provided with a voting card. Marsha Commond tallied the votes and based on the results, the Board elected artist Shawn Coffey for The Indian River Drive Mural Project.
 
The Board agreed to hold a Special Meeting with the artist to discuss the Indian River Drive Mural Design on April 2, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.

OLD BUSINESS
 
a.
Dowdle Art Commission Follow-up
Marsha Commond, Redevelopment Specialist, presented a review of the Dowdle Art Commission. The Board expressed their concern that the proposed art project may not be suitable for the City. As a result of this discussion, the Board has made the decision not to pursue the Dowdle Art Commission proposal.
 
 

Motion by Chairwoman Julie Pouliotte, seconded by Vice-Chair Doretha Hair Truesdell to not move forward with the Dowdle Art Commission.

7.
BOARD AND STAFF DISCUSSION
Marsha Commond, Redevelopment specialist, announced that due to a new position within the City of Fort Pierce, she will no longer be working with the Arts & Culture Advisory Board. She went on to state that Special Projects Coordinator Audria Moore will be taking over her responsibilities. The Board congratulated Ms. Commond and thanked her for a job well done.
 
The Board noted the upcoming events including The Zora Fest and the Color Fort Piece Beautiful Honoring Edwin Binney.  
 
8.
ADJOURNMENT
Meeting was adjourned at 10:16 a.m.
