Illegal Dumping
Ms. Commond let the Board know that the Commission is looking for their input on illegal dumping and how to combat this issue. Solid Waste Division Manager, Leroy Lewis, stated that without an inspector the dumping would continue to happen. The City needs to install signage for no dumping and have either a Code Enforcement or Police Office to be able to patrol for illegal dumping specifically. Public Works Director Jason Atkinson let the Board know internally, he has been working to encourage the Public Works employees to clean up any trash they see as they are out around the City. The person they are trying to hire would be patrolling Friday through Tuesday and the vehicle would say Public Works/ Solid Waste enforcement. This issue will take collaboration with the City and the Community to combat the problem. The Board would like to discuss the specific State Statues on illegal dumping at the next meeting.
