OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE FORT PIERCE CRA ADVISORY COMMITTEE HELD ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15, 2026, IN FORT PIERCE 2ND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM, 100 NORTH US HIGHWAY 1, FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA.

Motion was made by Donna Benton, and seconded by Wesley Sands 

to excuse the absences.

Inappropriate language will not be tolerated.

The owners of Mervis Cafe (402 South 5th Street) and Dreamchaser Preschool (505 North 7th Street) expressed their preference for artist submissions for their buildings

Review and Evaluation of Artist Submissions for the 2026 FPRA Mural Program – Elks Lodge (608 South 5th Street)
  • Selected Artist: Shannen Mythen
  • Notes: Consideration to modify the design to include “100 Years of Service” in recognition of the lodge’s anniversary.

 
b.
Review and Evaluation of Artist Submissions for the 2026 FPRA Mural Program – Dreamchaser Preschool (505 North 7th Street)
  • Selected Artist: Inna Parkhomenko
  • Notes: Potential revisions include adding the preschool’s name and incorporating imagery of children in various professional roles (e.g., doctors, electricians).

Review and Evaluation of Artist Submissions for the 2026 FPRA Mural Program – Mervis Cafe & Grille (402 South 5th Street)
  • Selected Artist: Sitki Dogan (Option 1)
  • Notes: Selection highlighted the artist’s 3D design capabilities and integration of building features such as windows. Some building awnings are expected to be removed prior to installation.

Review and Evaluation of Artist Submissions for the 2026 FPRA Mural Program – St. Andrew's Episcopal Academy (320 South Indian River Drive)
  • Selected Design: Pete Koza
  • Notes: The design aligns with themes of faith, nature, and local identity.

STAFF AND COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS
 
a.
2025 FPRA Annual Report
  • Staff presented the 2025 Annual Report titled “Laying the Groundwork,” covering the period from October 2024 through September 2025.
 

 
b.
Youth Banner Art Showcase Recap
  • Staff reported on a successful Youth Banner Art Showcase ceremony.
  • Students' artwork was displayed in the lobby and certificates with their renderings were handed to each student.
  • Discussion followed regarding the condition of light posts used for banner displays.
  • A committee member suggested allocating a portion of the remaining $39,000 mural budget to repaint approximately 78 light posts to improve overall presentation quality.
