Minutes for City Commission Swearing-In Ceremony - 4:30 PM

MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA, HELD IN THE CITY HALL COMMISSION CHAMBERS, 100 NORTH U.S. #1, FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA, AT 4:30 P.M. ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 2026.

CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Hudson called the meeting to order at 4:30pm.

SWEARING IN CEREMONY
City Clerk Linda Cox read a statement supplied by Commissioner Arnold Gaines as he was unable to attend as he was out of town due to a prior commitment made to attend the Trustee Leadership Council through the Florida Public Pension Trustees Association as a certified member of the Fort Pierce Retirement Board. Commissioner Gaines offered his sincere regrets for being unable to attend the Swearing In Ceremonies for Commissioner Chris Dzadovsky and the new Police Chief David Smith.

Oath of office administered by City Clerk
City Clerk Linda Cox administered the Oath to Commissioner Chris Dzadovsky.

Chris Dzadovsky, District 2, Seat 2
Commissioner Chris Dzadovsky expressed gratitude towards the Commission, City Manager, City Attorney, City Staff, friends, family, supporters, and members of the Public. Commissioner Dzadovsky stated he is grateful for the trust that the residents of Fort Pierce have placed in him and that he is here to serve all residents of the City. Commissioner Dzadovsky expressed respect for the Commission and the professionalism of City Staff who keep the City operating every day. Commissioner Dzadovsky stated he is looking forward to working with the Mayor, Commissioners, City Manager, and City Attorney, and City Staff as partners in service to the Community. Commissioner Dzadovsky stated that they all have an obligation to move Fort Pierce forward in a way that strengthens neighborhoods, protects taxpayers, and builds confidence in local government. 

Commissioner Curtis Johnson, Jr. welcomed Commissioner Chris Dzadovsky and recognized that Commissioner Dzadovsky echoed the slogan "One Fort Pierce" in his speech. Commissioner Johnson gave both Commissioner Chris Dzadovsky and new Police Chief David Smith "One Fort Pierce" pins.

Commissioner Broderick congratulated Commissioner Chris Dzadovsky on his successful campaign. Commissioner Broderick expressed excitement for the upcoming healthy debates and for the Commission to all work collectively to govern the residents and the City of Fort Pierce to the best of their abilities.

Mayor Linda Hudson expressed happiness that the empty seat besides her is now filled. Mayor Hudson states she is proud of the Commission for continuing to work and staying civil while shouldering the load of a fifth Commissioner willingly and cheerfully.

City Manager Richard Chess congratulated and welcomed Commissioner Chris Dzadovsky to the City Commission.

City Clerk Linda Cox stated she is looking forward to working with Commissioner Chris Dzadovsky under his new role of City Commissioner. Ms. Cox hopes to continue to work well with Commissioner Dzadovsky, and is looking forward to the great things he will do for the City of Fort Pierce.

City Attorney Sara Hedges stated she is happy the Commission is five now instead of four; that the even number was worrisome at times. Ms. Hedges jokingly reminded Commissioner Broderick that written notes still count under Sunshine Law.

ADJOURNMENT

Immediately following adjournment, please move toward the doors and exit the chambers. This allows for the safe and courteous exit of all persons, and those on the dais. Conversations after the meeting should be held outside of chambers, in the foyer or elsewhere, but not in the commission chambers where lights will be out as soon as the chambers are empty.
Mayor Hudson adjourned the meeting at 4:45pm.
