Minutes for City Commission Public Workshop - Indian Hills Golf Course

MINUTES OF A PUBLIC WORKSHOP BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA, HELD IN THE CITY HALL COMMISSION CHAMBERS, 100 NORTH U.S. #1, FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA, AT 5:00 P.M. ON THURSDAY, MARCH 30, 2017.

CALL TO ORDER - Mayor Hudson called the meeting to order at 5:00 PM.

DISCUSSION OF INDIAN HILLS GOLF COURSE

Mr. Mimms gave a brief introduction speaking to the history of the golf course's financial position, historical nature and the importance of gaining the community's input. In preparation for this meeting, a community survey has been circulated; there were over 150 responses.  

Commission discussion included the availability of background documents online and the importance of community feedback.

COMMUNITY INPUT - INTERACTIVE SESSION

Rebecca Grohall, Planning Manager, facilitated the interactive survey portion. The results are posted on the City of Fort Pierce website.

Further Commission discussion included possible collaboration with IRSC students, course volunteers, a club house option, mitigating expenses, looking for out-of-the-box ideas and moving this forward in a dynamic way. The debt associated with the Golf Course needs to be taken into consideration as well as a possible FEC Railroad impediment. Lucille Posa, Indian Hills Golf Course Manager, mentioned the creation of the Golf Course Advisory Board comprised of staff, community partners and experienced golf industry professionals.

Nicholas Mimms, City Manager, stated that this is a recreational facility and should be treated as such. A status report and plan will be given within 60 - 90 days.

ADJOURNMENT - There being no further business, Mayor Hudson declared the meeting adjourned at 6:38 p.m.
