OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE FORT PIERCE CITY CRA ADVISORY COMMITTEE HELD ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2018, IN FORT PIERCE 2ND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM, 100 NORTH US HIGHWAY 1, FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA.

Minutes from the August 15, 2018 meeting
Motion was made by Lillian Jimenez, and seconded by Plythe Freedman to approve the minutes from the August 15, 2018 meeting.

Update from Officer Maldonado
This item was presented after item 6c.
Officer Maldonado provided handouts to the committee members showing what Miami, Orlando and West Palm Beach have done in reference to the homeless situation. He stated the Miami ordinance has been challenged by the court and the city of Orlando is putting money aside for healthcare services for the homeless.

Formulation of talking points for upcoming FPRA meeting
Chairman Matthews asked Allan Reed, Pat Murphy and Kristina Gibbons to speak on the homeless issue at the October 15, 2018 FPRA meeting. Ms. Grohall suggested they speak on personal experiences and ideas or thoughts of what can change. Discussion ensued about the following talking points: homeless situation at the downtown library, conflicting homeless statistics, license for distributing food, homeless field trip for the City Commissioners, tax revenue impact, no feeding ordinance, park space pemits and homeless situation at Pinewood Park and Dollar Tree.

Ms. Grohall stated the property may be for sale and she has had inquiries from buyers in South Florida. Chairman Matthews spoke about contacting Don King to see if he will give the building to the City of Fort Pierce or if a group of non-profits are interested in getting together to purchase the building.

STAFF AND COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS
Ms. Grohall stated there was a large turnout and successful public input at the Peacock Arts District pop-up community meeting on Thursday evening, September 13, 2018 at the St. Anastasia school, located in the Peacock Arts District. Ms. Grohall handed out surveys to the committee regarding the repurposing of the St. Anastasia building.
Joe Sweat, Marketing Specialist, provided the committee with handouts on the half-cent sales tax increase. Mr. Sweat explained that there will be an open House on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 in Fort Pierce and on Thursday, September 27, 2018 in Port St. Lucie to discuss the local improvment projects that would be funded by the sales tax. Chairman Matthews invited Mr. Sweat to the next CRA meeting for a half-cent sales tax presentation.
